Summary
Frank Ezard was a sawmill owner whose mills were in the vanguard of mechanical timber harvesting in Victoria. After operating several ventures in the Warburton region between 1908 and 1926, Ezard purchased second-hand a Ligerwood logging machine and established his business in the Thomson Valley. To the Ligerwood machines he added winches and a geared steam locomotive. Much of the work in the Valley was extraction of timber following severe bushfires in 1932 and 1939. To assist extraction, a tramway was constructed. In 1951 machinery and tramway were transferred to Swifts Creek. Companies owned by Ezard included the Warburton Timber & Tramway Company. He served a term as President of the Hardwood Millers Association.
