Summary
The Australian Ceramic Society "works towards furthering all aspects of ceramics in science, industry, research, trade and in art." Its origins lie in the Department of Ceramic Engineering at the University of New South Wales where, in 1961, at the initiative of Professor Eric McCartney, the Ceramic Society of New South Wales was formed. The following year the name was changed to the Australian Ceramic Society. In 1970 the Society amalgamated with a Victorian Society of the same name which, having been inactive for some time, had been revived in the 1960s. The Society functions with a federal council and autonomous branches in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia. Since 1965 the Society has published the Journal of the Australian Ceramic Society.
