Summary
The Department of Primary Industries and Water (2006 - 2009) also known as DPIW was established in 2006 after the environment functions were transferred from the Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment (1998 - 2006) to the Department of Tourism, Arts and the Environment (2006 - 2011). The department was home to the Veterinary Board of Tasmania (1918 - ), the Rivers and Water Supply Commission (1957 - 2011), and the Agricultural, Silvicultural and Veterinary Chemicals Council (1995 - ). In 2009 the Department of Primary Industries and Water (DPIW) (2006 - 2009) became the Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment (2009 - ) when it took on some functions from the Department of Environment, Parks, Heritage and the Arts (2008 - 2009) including the Parks and Wildlife Service (1993- ) and the Environment Protection Authority (2008 - ).
