Summary
Hari Narain was in Sydney during the 1950s where he earned the first PhD awarded in Australia in geophysics. During his time he was on the faculty at the University of Sydney. His research involved extensive field surveys with a gravity meter and interpretation of the findings in relation to geological and crustal structure. Narain was noted for the quality of his survey work and as a consultant to private companies. In 1956 he returned to India to work in oil and gas exploration, ultimately becoming Surveyor General of India.
