Summary
Robert Neal was an archaeologist noted for his work in analysing middens in southeast Queensland which provided the first evidence of Pleistocene occupation of northern areas of Australia's east coast. He was a staunch advocate for indigenous cultural heritage, including the preservation of important archaeological sites. During he 1980s and 1990s he was manager University of Queensland Archaeological Services Unit and worked for the Cultural Heritage Branch of the Queensland Department of Environment and Heritage. In 1985 Neal established a cultural heritage consultancy, Pirripoint Ltd.
