Summary
George Adcock was a teacher and botanist working in the Geelong region of Victoria. Between 1875 and 1898 he worked for the Victorian Public Service as a head teacher and later permanent assistant at Geelong Flinders School. In 1898 he transferred to the Victorian Government Department of Agriculture. By 1906 he was Principal of the Viticultural Station and School in Rutherglen Victoria. He retired from this position in October 1920. Alongside his formal employment George Adcock was an active member of the Geelong Field Naturalists Club serving as president in 1897 and again in 1902. He was also a member of the Royal Society of Victoria and a fellow of the Linnean Society (London). His census of indigenous plants of the Geelong District, census of the plants of the Cape Otway Forest and Supplementary list of plants from the cap Otway Forest are held by the Royal Botanical Gardens of Victoria.
