Summary

Peter Joubert was an engineer who made substantial contributions in the field of fluid mechanics. He was Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Melbourne from 1972 to 1989. Much of his research was into the forces playing on the hulls of yachts and submarines. Joubert was an expert in road safety, participating in a number of committees on vehicle design and truck safety, and he played a key role in legislating for the compulsory use of seat belts in Australia. He was an enthusiastic ocean yacht racer and successful yacht designer.
