Summary
Phil Lewis was veterinary consultant and ultimately Principal Veterinary Officer for the Commonwealth Serum Laboratories (later CSL Ltd). He played a leading role in the care, breeding and sourcing of laboratory animals and domestic species used in the production of vaccines and antisera used in human and veterinary medicine. His responsibilities included the management of large field stations and animal colonies, and conduct of an outreach program relating to immunology and infectious diseases and the use of CSL products. Hartley had a regular radio segment that was broadcast throughout Australia.
