Summary
Ted Rowntree was a civil engineer and hydrology engineer responsible for siting, and the design and construction of hydro-electric dams and power developments in Tasmania up to 1940. From 1947 he was appointed engineer for major investigations for the Commonwealth Department of Public Works and Housing, and took a lead role in the proposals for the Snowy Mountains hydro-electric scheme. Between 1949 and 1951 he was the chief investigating and design engineer for the Snowy Mountain Hydro-electric Authority, providing estimates of river flows and projected power outputs for the scheme.
