Summary
Microbiologist Paul Wood became involved in animal health research during the 1980s. He joined the CSIRO Division of Animal Health in 1985 and was part of the team put together to develop a rapid identification test for bovine tuberculosis. The research resulted in a successful prototype test in 1990 and for this research the team was awarded the CSIRO Medal for Research Achievement. It was commercially adapted to test bovines (Bovigamâ„¢), deer (Cervigamâ„¢) and primates (Primagamâ„¢). Wood left the CSIRO in 1997 to direct the company that had licensed the technology, CSL. He was also the Deputy Director and Program Leader in the Cooperative Research Centre for Vaccine Technology from 1993 to 2000. In 2004 he joined Pfizer Animal Health Australia as Senior Director and was promoted in 2008 to Executive Director.

In 1990 Wood (wilth colleagues) was awarded the CSIRO Medal for Research Achievement for developing diagnostic test for bovine tuberculosis.
