Summary

Brian Collins is Dean of Science at Curtin University. He has been on a number of Western Australian government advisory committees, particularly in the area of conservation. His main ornithological interest is in the nectar-feeding birds, especially their foraging behaviour, energetics and importance as pollinators of flowering plants.

Born ca 1937. Educated University of Melbourne (BSc 1957, DipEd 1958), University of Western Australia (MSc 1971) and Syracuse University (PhD 1975). Science and mathematics teacher, Victorian secondary schools 1959-66; lecturer in biology, Monash Teachers' College 1967; senior lecturer in biology/physiology, Pharmacy Department, Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT) 1968-73; principal lecturer and head, Department of Biology, WAIT / Curtin University of Technology 1974-80, professor and head, School of Environmental Biology, Curtin University of Technology 1981-98, Dean of Science 1999 to date. President, Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union 1989-95; president, Australasian Pollination Ecologists' Society ca 1999.
