Born Newcastle, 24 May 1932. Died Canberra, 10 October 1997. Educated New England University College, University of Sydney (BSc 1953) and Australian National University (PhD). Carnegie Research Fellow, Mt Wilson and Palomar Observatories and Fullbright scholar, Royal Greenwich Observatory 1960-62.
