Alan Arkinstall was Chief Chemist, Sulphuric Acid Ltd, South Australia from 1955, later transferring to Adelaide & Wallaroo Fertilizers Ltd. He had a reputation of being one of the best "acid men" in the country. He completed a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Auckland where he worked before arriving in Australia.
