This paper, No.1728, originated in the Brisbane Division of The Institution and was presented before a General Meeting of the Division on 24th Aug 1962.
The author, P. B. Jones BE GradIEAust, is a Mechanical Engineer, Commonwealth Department of Works, Brisbane, and during 1962 studied the potential uses of G.E.Ms. in Australia under a Commonwealth Post Graduate Research Scholarship at the University of Queensland.[This paper was awarded the Edward Noyes Prize 1964]
- Abstract
This paper comprises a survey of the characteristics and performance of present day Ground Effect Machines (G.E.Ms.) derived by analysis of data available for a number of such craft already constructed. Problems of operation over land and water are discussed and comparisons are made throughout with existing methods of transport.
