The section of the existing 8ft. 6 in. diameter North Yarra Main Sewer under the Stony Creek, was found, for reasons set out in the paper, to require duplication. A new diversion sewer was designed, and the construction of this is nearing completion. Features of the work are:-
(a) Construction of bypass sewers, and diversion of live sewer around new junction chambers;
(b) Tunnelling through rock, and construction of brick sewer ; and
(c) Tunnelling through soft silt with the aid of a shield and compressed air.
The work will not be completed and in operation until the latter end of 1930.
