Abstract

This paper summarizes some of the different methods which have been used to extend the short term records of streamflow in the Snowy Mountains Area. The methods have been classified and the use of a number of different parameters including the season of the year, preceding run-off, rainfall distribution and the run-off of surrounding catchments is described. Graphical and mathematical methods of establishing relationships are discussed, together with objective procedures for selecting and evaluating the significance of additional variables. In conclusion, a number of methods are compared to show their influence in the determination of reservoir capacity.
