Abstract

This paper presents experimentally-determined residence-time distributions for liquid flow through a cylindrical tank with axial inlet and outlet pipes. The results are for tank: pipe diameter ratio equal to 16: 1, Reynolds number in pipe from 2,000 to 25,000 and for tank length : diameter ratios of 2 and I.
A model of the mixing process in the tank is proposed, which fits the experimental results.
The results indicate that the effects of Reynolds number on the parameters of the model is small in the range studied, with the parameters approaching constant values at high Reynolds number.
