- Description
This paper by NCCOE member Dr Michael Gourlay charts the history of coastal engineering in Australia and was the winner of the 1996 Civil College Board W.H. Warren Medal for the best paper in civil engineering. It is a major original research work drawing upon a wide range of sources to provide a comprehensive review of this specialist branch of engineering as practised in Australia. Its scope is broad, covering the entire nation, the duration of its history and a great diversity of issues and projects on which coastal engineers have worked. These include ports and harbours, coastal protection and management, research and investigation, environmental management, and formal mechanisms for advancement of the profession.
