This paper, No.1620, was presented before the Engineering Conference, 1962, in Cooma from 19th to 23rd March, 1962.

The paper is presented in two parts: Part 1 - Design, by J. R. Hunter, and Part 2 - Construction, by W. P. Hartwig. Mr. J. R. Hunter, BE AMIEAust, is Engineer for Tunnels and Aqueducts, Civil Engineering Design Division, and Mr. W. P. Hartwig, DiplIng(Hanover) AMIEAust, was the Resident Engineer for this contract, of Major Contracts Division, both of the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Authority.

Abstract

This paper describes the civil engineering design and construction of the Tooma Dam, the Tooma-Tumut Tunnel and appurtenant works. The works were carried out by contract from June, 1958, to June, 1961, and the Tooma River was diverted into the Tumut River on 28th January, 1961. [The details of the size and type of the dam and tunnel works are included in the Summary.]
