- Description
A National Science Centre, possibly the first of its kind in the world, will be built in Melbourne as a memorial to one of Australia's most distinguished scientists, Sir Ian Clunies Ross. It will be a multi-storey building, to be known as Clunies Ross House, on a site in Royal Parade, Parkville, near the University of Melbourne, and its function will be to house the headquarters of all the major scientific and technological societies of Australia.
