Abstract

A description is given of the methods adopted by the author to experimentally check some of the more important results obtained by Mr. A. G. M. Michell in the operation of certain thrust bearings, particularly in regard to the conditions of formation and stability of the lubricating film and the effect of variations of viscosity in different parts of the film, due to varying temperatures.
