Abstract

This viaduct, which was built in 1860, crossed the Moorabool viaduct on the then main railway line to the Ballarat goldfields. Time having evolved heavier engines and larger loads, it was necessary to strengthen the masonry piers by the addition of intermediate steel piers. How this work was accomplished is described.
