Abstract

This bibliography has been prepared by the staff of The Institution Library. Its preparation results from interest expressed in the subject by an American specialist on dams, Professor A. L. Alin, who considers that much significant work on dams has taken place in Australia.

As far as could be ascertained, no comprehensive bibliography on Australian dams was already in existence. The awareness of the value of such a list has resulted in this compilation of all the information available to the Library staff.

The list has been prepared by searching the following publications:
* Engineering Index ... 1896-1969;
* Australian Science Index ... 1957-1969;
* Australian National Bibliography ... 1961-1969;
* Institution of Civil Engineers. London. Indexes. ... 1837-1969;
* Institution of Engineers, Australia. Author and subject index of publications, 1920-1968;
* UNION list of higher degree theses in Australian university libraries. Cumulative edition to 1965. Hobart, University of Tasmania Library. 1967;
* DAMS: a bibliography of books, periodicals and Society publications appearing Jan.1924-Mar.1936. The Engineer School, Fort Worth, Va., 1936.

The assistance of librarians and publications officers of the various organisations issuing papers and bibliographical information on dams is also gratefully acknowledged.
