- Abstract
A resume of the establishment of the Tasmanian Committee for Engineering Heritage (the Committee) of The Institution of Engineers Australia (the Institution) and its programme to research, record and preserve sites and objects of engineering significance is presented.
The wide variety and extent of the Tasmanian Engineering Heritage is briefly described together with some examples of military engineering, public works (roads, bridges and railways), mining, power generation, manufacturing and municipal services,
The limited numbers of examples which can be given in the paper will be augmented during its presentation by the use of slides.
The paper concludes that the task facing the Committee is both a formidable and long term one for which regular funding at a substantial level is required.
