Summary

Ben Lawson was a botanist and ecologist whose research focussed on vegetation mapping and ecological monitoring. For over 20 years he worked for the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines, ultimately being concerned with scientifically-based land use policy planning. He was involved in international long-term ecological monitoring collaborations, including the Planned Programme for Biodiversity Monitoring, and in 2008 - 2009 organised an international working group the purpose of which was to revamp existing ecological classifications. Lawson was a Member of the Council of the Royal Society of Queensland for nearly ten years, and led the project to digitise the Society's records and Proceedings.
