Summary

Harry Cohn was a mathematician noted for his expertise in probability theory and random processes, including branching processes and products of random matrices with connections to ergodic properties. He was particularly noted for his significant contributions to the theory of Markov chains, non-homogenous Markov chains and simulated annealing. After 12 years lecturing in mathematics in Romania and Israel, Cohn was appointed Lecturer at the Australian National University in 1975. He was Reader in Mathematics at the University of Melbourne from 1978 until his retirement in 2003.
