Summary

Established in 1965 the Department of Fisheries and Fauna Conservation replaced the Fisheries and Game Department (1919 - 1964). The department carried out functions including fishing licencing and wildlife conservation. In 1972 the Fisheries functions of the Department of Fisheries and Fauna Conservation amalgamated with the Department of Agriculture [III] (1908 - 1975). It appears likely the conservation functions of the Department of Fisheries and Fauna Conservation (1965 - 1972) were transferred to the new Department of Environment and Conservation at the same time (1972).
