Summary

The Australian Department of Primary Industry was established in 1975, succeeding the Departments of Agriculture, and Northern Australia. Its responsibilities included: agricultural and pastoral industries, fisheries, and forestry. In 1987 the Department was succeeded by the Department of Primary Industry and Energy.
