Association for the Protection of Native Races (APNR) (1911 - )
- From
- 1911
Sydney, New South Wales, Australia
Summary
When formed in Sydney in 1911, this Australian association sought to exert in Australia and nearer regions, the same kind of humane and philanthropic influence which the British Anti-Slavery and Aborigines Protection Society had been exercising in many parts of the world since 1839 through its powers and vigilance. The Association also arose from the humanist concerns of anthropologists who aired their concerns at the meetings of the Australasia Association for the Advancement of Science.
The published Annual Reports of the Association summarise the many issues and progress, 'subjected to periods of delay and frustration', 'for the uplift of an inarticulate and unenfranchised people'.
