Description

The Chairman's Address, presented by Lawrence Howard Nutter, BE AMIEAust, to the Annual General Meeting of the Division at Sydney, 9 Mar 1939.

Abstract

The aim of the presentation is to illustrate, by the use of a few curves, the development of secondary industries over the past fifteen years and to consider some of the factors affecting manufacturing business. The curves show in graphical form some of the data published by the Commonwealth Statistician.
It is important that we should keep before us a picture of the progress that is being made, particularly in those spheres in which we, as engineers, spend so much time. Although such a pastime will lead us into the sacred hunting grounds of the economists, it is well that we should follow, on occasions, the trail that leads us at least part way into the forest of statistics.
