- Abstract
In recent years significant advances have been made in the study of the storage and flow characteristics of bulk solids. As a result there are now well established materials testing and associated design procedures to enable storage bins to be designed for reliable and predictable flow. this paper presents an overview of the developments that have taken place. the design philosophy of storage bins and bottom reclaim stockpiles is reviewed. Particular mention is made of flow property measurements, techniques for predicting bin wall pressures, feeding of bulk solids from gravity discharge hoppers and the prediction of flow rates of fine powders from mass flow bins.
