- Description
This paper, No.947, by John Guthrie Brown, MICE MIEAust, was presented before the Sydney and Melbourne Divisions of The Institution, on 30th April, 1947, and as Paper No.5585 of The Institution of Civil Engineers, was presented before that Institution in London, on 29th April, 1947.
- Abstract
This paper is confined mainly to the design of the graving dock, for which the author was responsible, on behalf of Messrs. Sir Alexander G1bb and Partners, who acted as Consulting Engineers to the Commonwealth Government of Australia for this project. A separate paper dealing in detail with the construction of the graving dock and with the experience gained in its operation will, it is hoped, be presented later by an official of the Dock Construction Section of the Department of the Interior (later the Department of Works and Housing), which department was responsible to the Australian War Cabinet for the execution of the work.
