- Abstract
Various inter-related methods of analysis of redundant structures are available, of which energy methods are important examples. The principles outlined are valid for all structures, but the argument is restricted to framed structures, which are amenable to simple treatment by energy methods. Complementary energy is applied to a pin-jointed redundant braced frame in order to define the behaviour of compression members as they buckle or tension members as they yield.
