- Abstract
In this paper, the choice, planning, and development of the sites of three cities, Washington, Ottawa, and Canberra, which are now the capitals of Federal Governments, are considered and comparisons are made; two main features are touched upon, (I) planning of the lay-out of the main functional buildings of a capital, that is, the Governmental group, and (II) access thereto.
The application and bearing of the experience of other cities in the case of Canberra, modem trends in town planning, and the role of the engineer in town planning are the subjects of the concluding remarks.
