Abstract

This paper reviews the development of earthing design in the Snowy Mountains Hydro-electric Authority, passing briefly over fundamentals and the description of their application to 66-kV electrical installations. The novel methods adopted for solving the earthing problems in the two large underground power stations, Tumut 1 and Tumut 2, and the associated 330-kV Upper Tumut Switching Station, are given in some detail, and plans for Murray 1 surface power station and Murray Switching Station, now under construction, are outlined.
