Abstract

Control of the blast furnaces operation is mainly manual. Shortcomings of manual control are well known and expert systems are seen as a viable solution. A knowledge-based Operator Guidance System (OGS) for heat balance control of an iron blast furnace has been developed and tested on-line. Quality of heat control changes during the trial appeared to be significantly better than with manual control practices. Development of the OGS and results of the trial are presented here.
