- Abstract
This paper presents a view of fire-engineering design which builds on that presented in the Fire Engineering Guidelines. A framework for undertaking and presenting the results of a fire-engineering design is developed and is considered to be applicable to most practical situations. It is based on the concept of the design fire and its impact on the occupants, fire fighters, adjacent property and other relevant design objectives for each Building Solution. The acceptability of the various Building Solutions is evaluated against Acceptance Criteria. The resulting Fire Engineering Design Report presents the findings and outcomes in a way that is likely to be acceptable to the Approving Authority. The paper presents guidance on design fires and raises some key issues that are relevant to assessing the impact of these fires on occupants and adjacent property.
