Abstract

Approximate solutions for the flexural torsional buckling of isolated beam columns are sometimes unnecessarily conservative. This is caused by the moment modification factor used to convert unequal end moments into equivalent equal end moments. A new formulation is proposed which yields more accurate solutions.
