Abstract

In Section "A" of this paper the various factors to be considered in the design of pipework for the higher pressure and temperature conditions are set out and illustrated.
In Section "B" a method is described of accurately determining the thrusts and stresses which occur in any pipe line, whether lying in one plane or not, due to the thermal expansion of the pipe or the movement of any machine to which the pipe is attached. Graphs are given to enable the various factors necessary to the solution to be read, and an example is worked out to illustrate the application of the method.
