- Abstract
In this paper, formulae are developed for the calculation of the magnitude and phase of the temperature response of a buried cable to a sinusoidal load. The temperature response to an arbitrary cyclic load is then found by adding the temperatures produced by each of a sufficient number of the Fourier components of that cyclic load. The formulae are applied to the case of a particular cable for which experimental results are available, and the calculated conductor temperatures are found to agree well with the experimental values. The results are then used to determine a cyclic rating factor for the cable.
