This paper, No.919, originated in the Melbourne Division of The Institution, and was presented before a General Meeting of the Electrical Engineering Branch of the Division, on 2nd July, 1946.

The authors, are both engaged in the service of the State Electricity Commission of Victoria: Mr. Eric David Howells, MEE AMIEAust, is Assistant Sub-Station Engineer, Power Production Department, at Melbourne, and Mr. J. C. Callinan is Assistant Electrical Superintendent at Yallourn.

Abstract

This paper describes the successful attempt to rehabilitate and modernise a 10-cu.yd. electrically driven shovel which was severely damaged by fire in 1924, necessitating the reconstruction or renewal of practically all the electrical equipment.
