Abstract

This group of 3 papers is being presented to show the part being played by the authorities concerned in establishing and operating the Australian section of the world-wide tracking and communications network required for Project Mercury-America's first experiment in manned space
exploration.
While not covering all the aspects which have had to be considered in a project of this size, it is considered that the description given in this group of papers of some of the tasks undertaken will indicate the magnitude and scope of the project, and also the measure of success which has so far been achieved in operating the network.
