- Abstract
The history of the bridges across the Torrens River, at Adelaide, since 1837 is given in the first section of the paper. The general load specifications and the special problems involved in keeping .the bridge open to traffic during the reconstruction are dealt with. The hinges and formwork required for the three-hinged arch are also described. Special attention is paid to the design and field control of the concrete, and the results of numerous tests are given. The architectural features and the lighting received particular thought in this design, and this forms an important section of the paper. In conclusion, the results of loading tests on the completed structure are given.
