Abstract

The demand for continuity of electrical service by the large manufacturing industries, and the public generally, has become so insistent that much study has been devoted to the improvement of protective devices for electrical circuits, in order to confine the disturbance caused by the breakdown of apparatus, to the smallest possible limits. Considerable advance has been made in recent years, and a marked improvement in service has been achieved. The experience of a large American Power Company may be cited. Their service to an important industrial centre is dependent on a complex distribution system involving over a hundred miles of transmission lines.
