* Lord Mountbatten, 80, elected in 1946 for service to radio engineering;
* Sir Ronald East, 81, elected in 1969 for work in water conservation, use and initiation of legislation on controlling natural resources;
* Dr Thomas O. Paine, 58, elected in 1970 for service to engineering and science in directing man's first landing on the moon;
* Sir James Holt, 81, elected in 1971 for service to engineering and the community;
* Clement H. D. Harper, 73, elected in 1972 on his retirement after 25 years as Institution secretary;
* Sir Mervyn Brogan, 64, elected in 1973 for conspicuous service to military engineering.
