Description

Retiring President's address by W. H. Warren, LLD MinstCE WhSc, Member of Council InstCE, Challis Professor of Engineering, Dean of Faculty of Engineering, University of Sydney, to the first Annual General Meeting of the Institution of Engineers, Australia, Sydney, 16th December 1920.

Abstract

In the first place, I wish to thank you for the honor you have conferred upon me by electing me to the position of President of the Institution of Engineers, Australia. I appreciate this honor all the more because I am your first President, and it is my duty, before relinquishing my office, following the usual procedure under similar conditions, to deliver an address. A President generally has the choice of a considerable range of subjects for his address, and usually selects the one in which he has had special experience. On this occasion it appears to me that the first presidential address should deal with the circumstances which have led up to the formation of our Institution, and with the various aims and objects of the Institution in Australia, rather than with some special subject of technical interest.
