- Description
This paper, No.411, originated in the Sydney Division of The Institution.
- Abstract
This paper outlines the design of a somewhat uncommon type of concrete arch, where the live load positive moments are considerably greater than the live load negative moments, which condition allows of a possible economy by ensuring negative dead load moments by so placing the crown hinge that it is eccentric to such an extent that it equalizes the maximum positive and negative moments. Typical calculations and graphical tabulations are given.
The arch was designed for the Department of Transport, N.S.W., Main Roads Section, to the Department's specification and loading.
