- Abstract
A further series of coal-burning gas turbine tests has been carried out with ash separator fitted. Rates of turbine blade erosion and ash deposition are compared with those obtained without gas cleaning and certain conclusions reached as to the significance of ash particle size distribution on blade erosion. A method of intermittent removal of ash from blades during engine operation allows continuous engine operation, and the results of a test of 200 hr. duration are discussed in relation to ultimate blade life.
