Abstract

The symposium (papers No.741) comprises five papers. The paper by Mr. J. R. Kemp originated in the Brisbane Division of The Institution and was delivered in the form of a lecture to the Division on 13th March, 1941. The paper by Mr. J. N. Yeates originated in the Adelaide Division of The Institution and was presented before the Division on 21St March, 1941. The papers by Messrs. D. Craig, S. M. Brown and G. B. D. Maunder originated in the Sydney Division of The Institution. They were presented before a Joint Meeting of the Division, The Local Government Engineers' Association of New South Wales and the Geographical Society of New South Wales, on 8th April, 1941. The late Mr. H. H. Newell, MIEAust, Commissioner for Main Roads, had arranged to present the introductory paper of the symposium and to illustrate it by means of cinematograph films, photographed by him, depicting the assembly of the plant in N.S.W., its transport to the Northern Territory and its operation on the constructional work. Following his sudden death on 15th March, 1941, Mr. Craig presented the paper at the meeting at which the films taken by Mr. Newell were screened.
