- Abstract
In the 1880s, the Chaffey brothers found themselves with two major irrigation projects to develop at the same time. Lower lying, Renmark didn't need the big pumping stations of Mildura but the pumps, on a more modest scale, were vital to the development of the irrigation colony. This paper traces their history over the first 50 years and, in particular, reveals the story of the pump displayed outside the Renmark Irrigation Trust offices.
